The Stream: There’s something off about the movie that keeps the tension from fully taking over.

The Big Screen: A semi-original creepy idea.

The Final Bill: A pretty creepy idea that had something just off about the execution from truly making it scary.

Stream-o-ween continues! Welcome back, Streamers! This week we were able to watch what seemingly is a very creepy and nostalgic flick, Mr. Crocket. This Huluween Original follows a mother as she embarks on a perilous quest to rescue her missing son from a mysterious children’s show host. TV poltergeist horror ensues. Check out the trailer if you haven’t heard about this film before!

As you can see, this movie takes viewers down a nostalgic TV-viewing road. In this flick, the hints of terror come from considering what if Mr. Rogers really being evil jump off the screen. Luckily, Mr. Rogers didn’t let his neighbors down. Either way, Mr. Crocket is a film that gives us the ick of TV past with the fear of current technology. Parents beware of screen time and little neighborhood libraries! Anyway, the movie is slightly original but also similar to other movies. The story isn’t new, but it definitely has a new twist on things which is why we were interested to watch. However, there’s just something off about this movie. It seems to me that the editing throws off the pacing of the movie. The movie itself is only about an hour and 20 minutes, which is nice but maybe too short. The movie starts off hot, but the audience doesn’t even have time to contemplate what’s going on. We are thrown in so quickly that the whole trajectory of the movie is spelled out within the first 10 minutes. I don’t love saying this, but the director probably could’ve slowed down the unfolding of the plot to give the story a little time to breathe.

Short spooky story short, Mr. Crocket is a creepy idea that just wasn’t paced well to make it scary.  Hulu keeps the creativity alive with this handful of popcorn flick. Beware of little free libraries!
