Hey, Streamers! Yeah, don’t take it personal since this review is for One of Them Days. We desperately need something to laugh about in these uncertain times. Thankfully, Keke Palmer and SZA have joined forces as a new comedy duo for 2025. In One of Them Days, we follow a hectic day for Dreux (Keke Palmer) and her friend/roommate, Alyssa (SZA), as they attempt to recover their rent money, which was taken by Alyssa’s deadbeat boyfriend, Keshawn (Joshua Neal), in order to avoid certain eviction from their strict landlord. Of course, Keshawn is unreliable, so Dreux and Alyssa have to figure out other ways to get $1,500 before the end of the day. As a result, Dreux and Alyssa encounter obstacles that put their friendship and lives in jeopardy, including a menacing romantic rival for Keyshawn’s affections. Big booty hijinks ensue.

One of Them Days is basically what you want it to be. It is a fast-paced, funny buddy movie that doesn’t overstay its welcome. The plot is straightforward, so the movie relies on Keke Palmer and SZA to make it more than what it is. The chemistry between the two leads is very good. They are believable in their individual roles, and they are especially believable as best friends. We know Keke Palmer has comedic chops, but SZA really matches Keke’s energy and ability as a comedic actress. Additionally, the movie has funny side characters and cameos throughout that assist in bringing life to the film.

I’ll also note that the movie has great elements that help fill out the screen. The apartment complex where Dreux and Alyssa live has a character all its own. As Dreux and Alyssa move throughout the day, we really get a sense of the neighborhood and the atmosphere. There is also great music that helps to give this movie even more energy. I can definitely see Dreux and Alyssa return in a sequel for more wacky adventures.

Ultimately, One of Them Days is a good buddy comedy that has strong leads with natural chemistry. Although the story is simple, there are enough funny parts to keep you engaged throughout. The setting and music flesh out the movie and add to its character. It may not have you rolling on the floor laughing, but you’ll definitely laugh out loud a time or two. Grab a bowl of popcorn and have a fun matinee at the movies.
