Olly olly oxen free, Streamers! Yes, it’s officially spring, so here’s the time to escape the fog of pollen and enjoy some random sequels at the movie theater. In this weekend’s offerings, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come brings back the bloody bride and sets her up for another dangerous game. In this sequel to 2019’s horror comedy, Ready or Not, Grace (Samara Weaving) has just survived the night of Hide and Seek and watched her in-laws, the Le Domas, 7-year-old spoiler alert, combust, when she’s confronted with her estranged sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton) and the threat of more bloody games from the Council of six elite families of devil worshippers. Grace has to survive another night of Hide and Seek in order to save herself and her sister while the members of the remaining elite families hunt Grace to become the head of the Council and avoid the fate of the Le Domas. More running, hiding, and exploding hijinks ensue.
Okay, I don’t need to belabor this review. Did you like Ready or Not? Do you want more of that? Then, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come should satisfy you. This movie has basically the same plot and a lot of the same humor that made the first one an intense and enjoyable experience. Samara Weaving is bringing the same energy, but she’s appropriately world-weary and covered in blood. This movie moves at a fast pace, and generally, you can guess how it’s going to end. Here’s the problem – there’s really nothing new, inventive or twisty about this sequel. They have added some good supporting characters particularly those played by Kathryn Newton, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shawn Hatosy. They add something to these proceeding that’s different, but they don’t fundamentally change the plot. Grace’s sister, Faith, is fun and tenacious, but the only problem with this character is she’s pretty one-note when dealing with her issues with her estrangement from Grace. Grace and Faith keep having the same conversation over and over again, which gets frustrating and distracting. Another addition is that we get more specific about the devil worshipping angle of the Le Domas and the other elite families. I feel like this aspect wasn’t as spelled out in the original. It’s all kind of dumb, but it serves the plotline, so I’ll allow it.
Other than that, there’s not much to Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. This movie could be considered just a money grab because the first one was unexpectedly successful, which it is, but it’s not entirely a waste of time. It’s a good diversion for someone looking to go to a quick, funny movie with some occasional thrills.

Ultimately, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is more of the same as its predecessor, so if you enjoyed that, why wouldn’t you enjoy this? Samara Weaving is excellent again, and the new cast members like Kathryn Newton, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shawn Hatosy are fun additions to this chaotic movie. There are some freaky things that happen, but overall, it doesn’t deviate much from what already happened. For those reasons, I can only suggest a bowl of popcorn for an afternoon matinee.
