Welcome back, Streamers! It’s summertime and movies are being released every second. This week on Netflix the long-awaited sequel, The Old Guard 2, was released. In this episode, Andy (Charlize Theron) leading the immortal warriors against a powerful unknown enemy tracking them and their history. When a long-lost teammate resurfaces complicating their mission to safeguard humanity, the old guard must reckon with their past. Immortal, injury healing fighting hijinks ensue.
I’m going to keep this brief. This movie was mid at best, but the poor storytelling makes the movie lean more towards the bad side. Not only is this an unoriginal theme of leaving a teammate behind coming to bite you in the booty, but it’s told in a way that introduces completely new people from the first movie. What does that mean, Streamers? Number one, we didn’t care that the movie was made in the first place. Number two, they’ve introduced 4 new people to the movie that we really have no connection to and don’t care about. Now, we’re supposed to be emotionally attached to them somehow? We are and we won’t. On top of that, Charlize looked weird like they used CGI de-aging on her. She is still bad to the bone in her fight scenes though. Also, the early fight sequences are so disjointed; however, this issue resolves midway through the movie. I wonder if they changed editors or something. Actually, the editing was a problem in the non-action scenes as well which obviously hurt the storytelling as well.

Long story short, if you saw the first movie you’ll be entertained enough, but The Old Guard 2 is a clear step back. The movie presents some killer fight sequences but is saddled with an inferior story. Grab a handful of popcorn and check out this expensive blunder on Netflix.
