Welcome back Streamers! This week’s edition brings us back to Metropolis, even though in reality we are barely there during the movie, Supergirl.  This movie follows Kara during her birthday week, but when Krypto gets into some trouble, Supergirl has to figure out a way to save him.   Emotional journey and self-discovery mixes with superhero fights and DC comics hijinks ensue.

I’ll see this… DC has never had an issue with giving the viewer a great viewing experience.   Supergirl is nothing different.   The movie looks excellent and the action sequences are pretty stellar.   They’ve found a way to give Supergirl her own fighting style and flow,  which is refreshing.

The real issue becomes the storyline and maybe the acting and editing. Ultimately, it feels like something is missing in the spirit of the movie.   I hear the words and get the sentiment, but at times it just feels like lines that are read.  The dialogue feels repetitive for almost every character.  While Supergirl is on a bender during this movie, the story feels like it as well.  From Jason Mamoa’s character to being semi-funny but random to the little girl repeating the same phrases over and over again… the viewer feels like is this real or not.  Now, I’ll say by the very end, you can feel the internal dilemma Supergirl was battling but couldn’t explain but it’s too late by then.  Luckily, we got some nice fights and giggles before that.

Trip: I’m just going to agree with you on most of this. For the first half of this movie, I was bored and sleepy. The young girl is annoying, repetitive, and not a very good actress. Jason Momoa is so random and feels like he dropped in from a completely different movie. The fight scenes help this movie chug along, but the story is not really engaging and feels pretty derivative. I will say that Kara/Supergirl as played by Milly Alcock has potential to be a charismatic and fun character – just all of the movie surrounding her lets her down.

At the end of it all, Supergirl is an entertaining movie while the action is going but otherwise feels like it’s missing something.   Grab a bowl of popcorn and see this at matinee times or pay for a month of a streaming service when it comes out.
